About SMIU
Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) is a public university in Karachi with roots going back to 1885, making it one of the oldest educational institutions in Pakistan. It was originally founded as Sindh Madressah-ul-Islam — a school established during the British colonial era by Hassan Ali Effendi and other prominent citizens of Sindh to provide modern and Islamic education. Pakistan's founding father, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, received part of his early schooling here, cementing the institution's place in national history.
SMIU was formally chartered as a university in 2013 by the Government of Sindh and is HEC-recognised. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in business, computer science, media studies, education, law, and social sciences. The historic main campus is located in the Boulton Market area of Karachi, with a landmark heritage building that has stood for over a century.

How to Calculate Your SMIU GPA
Your semester GPA at SMIU is calculated by multiplying each subject's grade points by its credit hours, summing all quality points, then dividing by total credit hours for the semester.
GPA Formula: GPA = ∑(Grade Points × Credit Hours) ÷ ∑Credit Hours
Example: Business Communication (3 cr, A = 4.00) + Accounting (3 cr, B+ = 3.33) + Microeconomics (3 cr, A- = 3.67) + IT Skills (2 cr, A+ = 4.00) = (12.00 + 9.99 + 11.01 + 8.00) ÷ 11 = 3.73 GPA
How to Calculate Your SMIU CGPA
Your Cumulative GPA (CGPA) at SMIU is the weighted average of all semester GPAs, with each semester weighted by its total credit hours across the full programme duration.
CGPA Formula: CGPA = ∑(Semester GPA × Semester Credit Hours) ÷ Total Credit Hours
Use the CGPA tab above — enter each semester's GPA and credit hours for an instant cumulative result. SMIU's BBA and BS programmes are typically 4 years (8 semesters); MBA programmes are 1.5–2 years.
