How to Calculate Your KEMU GPA
To calculate your semester GPA at KEMU, multiply each subject's grade points by its credit hours to get quality points, sum all quality points, then divide by the total credit hours for the semester.
GPA Formula: GPA = ∑(Grade Points × Credit Hours) ÷ ∑Credit Hours
Example: Anatomy (4 cr, A = 4.00) + Physiology (4 cr, B+ = 3.33) + Biochemistry (3 cr, A- = 3.67) = (16.00 + 13.32 + 11.01) ÷ 11 = 3.67 GPA
How to Calculate Your KEMU CGPA
Your Cumulative GPA (CGPA) at KEMU is a weighted average of all semester GPAs across your degree, with each semester weighted by its credit hours.
CGPA Formula: CGPA = ∑(Semester GPA × Semester Credit Hours) ÷ Total Credit Hours
Enter each semester's GPA and credit hours in the CGPA tab above for an instant running total. This applies to BS Allied Health Sciences and MS/MPhil programmes at KEMU.
Convert KEMU CGPA to Percentage
The HEC standard conversion formula is used by KEMU for all HEC 4.0-scale programmes. This percentage is accepted by employers and foreign universities for equivalence purposes.
Formula: Percentage = (CGPA ÷ 4.0) × 100
| CGPA | Percentage | Class / Division |
|---|---|---|
| 3.80 – 4.00 | 95 – 100% | Distinction |
| 3.50 – 3.79 | 87.5 – 94.75% | First Class |
| 3.00 – 3.49 | 75 – 87.25% | First Class |
| 2.50 – 2.99 | 62.5 – 74.75% | Second Class |
| 2.00 – 2.49 | 50 – 62.25% | Pass Class |
KEMU Minimum CGPA Requirements & Probation
KEMU enforces HEC-mandated minimum CGPA thresholds for all degree programmes operating on the 4.0 scale. Students falling below these thresholds face academic probation.
| Programme Level | Minimum CGPA | Consequence if Below |
|---|---|---|
| BS Allied Health Sciences | 2.00 | Academic Warning |
| MS / MPhil | 2.50 | Academic Probation |
| PhD | 3.00 | Dismissal Risk |
Note: MBBS and BDS students are not evaluated on a CGPA system. Their academic standing is determined by professional examination results under PMC regulations. Contact the relevant faculty for MBBS academic standing criteria.
KEMU Dean’s List & Academic Distinctions
KEMU recognises academic excellence through semester-based distinctions for BS and postgraduate students. These honours are recorded on official transcripts.
| Award | CGPA Requirement | Additional Criteria |
|---|---|---|
| Dean’s List | 3.70+ | No F or Incomplete grades |
| Vice Chancellor’s List | 3.90+ | Full credit load, no warnings |
| Gold Medal (Convocation) | Highest CGPA in Programme | First attempt, no repeated courses |

Absolute vs Relative Grading at KEMU
KEMU uses absolute grading for all HEC 4.0-scale programmes (BS and postgraduate). Grades are determined by fixed percentage thresholds, not relative to class performance. MBBS and BDS follow PMC professional examination standards which are pass/fail based.
| System | How Grade is Set | Used at KEMU? |
|---|---|---|
| Absolute Grading (HEC 4.0) | Fixed marks thresholds | ✓ Yes (BS & Postgrad) |
| PMC Professional Exams | Pass/Fail by subject | ✓ Yes (MBBS & BDS) |
| Relative / Bell-curve | Based on class performance | ✗ Not used |

KEMU Admission Aggregate & Merit Calculator
KEMU admissions are highly competitive, particularly for MBBS. Different programmes use different aggregate formulas.
MBBS Aggregate Formula:
Matric: 10% | FSc Pre-Medical: 40% | MDCAT Score: 50%
BS Allied Health Sciences Aggregate Formula:
Matric: 10% | FSc Pre-Medical: 50% | Entry Test: 40%
A minimum of 65% marks in FSc (Pre-Medical) is typically required for MBBS eligibility at KEMU. Seats are limited and merit is determined strictly by the aggregate formula. Refer to the official KEMU admissions portal for current year cutoffs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does KEMU use a GPA system for MBBS?
No. MBBS and BDS programmes at KEMU follow Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) professional examination standards, which use percentage-based pass/fail assessments for each professional year — not a semester CGPA system. The HEC 4.0 GPA system applies only to BS Allied Health Sciences and postgraduate programmes.
What grading scale does KEMU use for BS programmes?
KEMU uses the HEC 4.0 absolute grading scale for all BS Allied Health Sciences and postgraduate programmes. The scale has 10 letter grades from A+ (4.00, 90–100%) to F (0.00, below 45%).
What is the minimum CGPA at KEMU for BS programmes?
The minimum CGPA is 2.00 for BS Allied Health Sciences undergraduate programmes and 2.50 for MS/MPhil, in line with HEC regulations. Students below this threshold are placed on academic probation.
How do I convert my KEMU CGPA to percentage?
Use the HEC formula: Percentage = (CGPA ÷ 4.0) × 100. For example, a CGPA of 3.6 = 90%. Try our CGPA to Percentage converter for an instant result.
Is KEMU degree recognised internationally?
Yes. KEMU is fully HEC-chartered and PMC-accredited. MBBS graduates must obtain PMC registration to practice in Pakistan. For international practice, doctors must additionally meet the licensing requirements of the destination country (e.g., PLAB for the UK, USMLE for the USA). HEC degree attestation is required for foreign equivalence applications.
