Frequently Asked Questions — Matric & Intermediate Grades
What is the IBCC grading scale for Matric in Pakistan? +
The IBCC grading scale for SSC (Matric) is: A1 (80–100%, Excellent), A (70–79%, Very Good), B (60–69%, Good), C (50–59%, Satisfactory), D (40–49%, Pass), E (33–39%, Supplementary/Conditional Pass), U (Below 33%, Fail). This scale applies to all Pakistani educational boards including Federal, Punjab, Sindh, and KPK boards.
How is Matric percentage calculated in Pakistan? +
Matric percentage = (Total Marks Obtained ÷ Total Marks) × 100. For example, if you scored 870 out of 1100, your percentage is (870 ÷ 1100) × 100 = 79.1% = Grade A. Add up all subject marks (including practicals if applicable) and divide by the total possible marks for your exam group.
What percentage is A1 grade in Matric Pakistan? +
An A1 grade in Matric (SSC) requires scoring 80% or above. For Federal Board (FBISE) where total marks are typically 1100, you need at least 880 marks. A1 is the highest IBCC grade and puts students in the top tier for college and university merit lists.
What is the passing percentage in Matric in Pakistan? +
The passing percentage in Matric (SSC) in Pakistan is 33% overall and 33% in each subject. Scoring 33–39% earns an E grade (conditional/supplementary pass). 40%+ earns a D grade (clear pass). However, for competitive college and university admissions, students typically need 60%+ (B grade) or higher.
What is the difference between SSC and HSSC? +
SSC (Secondary School Certificate) is the Matric/Class 10 examination. HSSC (Higher Secondary School Certificate) is the Intermediate/Class 12 examination. Both are conducted by BISE (Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education) across Pakistan and both use the same IBCC grading scale. After HSSC, students appear for university entry tests (MDCAT for medical, ECAT for engineering, NTS/HAT for others).
How do I convert my Matric grade to university CGPA? +
Matric/HSSC grades (IBCC scale) and university CGPA (HEC 4.0 scale) are completely different systems and cannot be directly converted. Your Matric percentage is used for university admission merit calculations, but your university CGPA is calculated freshly from your degree coursework using the HEC 4.0 formula. Use our CGPA Calculator for university grades.
