Frequently Asked Questions — Intermediate Grades Pakistan
What is the IBCC grading scale for Intermediate in Pakistan? +
The IBCC grading scale for HSSC (Intermediate) is: A1 (80–100%, Excellent), A (70–79%, Very Good), B (60–69%, Good), C (50–59%, Satisfactory), D (40–49%, Pass), E (33–39%, Conditional Pass), U (Below 33%, Fail). This scale is used by all BISE boards — Federal Board (FBISE), Punjab boards, Karachi board, Hyderabad board, Sukkur board, and all KPK boards. It is the same scale as Matric (SSC).
How is FSc percentage calculated in Pakistan? +
FSc percentage is calculated by adding all your subject marks from both FSc Part I (1st Year) and Part II (2nd Year), then dividing by the total possible marks. Formula: Percentage = (Total Obtained ÷ Total Maximum) × 100. For Federal Board FSc with 1100 total marks, scoring 880 gives (880 ÷ 1100) × 100 = 80% = Grade A1. Use our calculator above by entering your marks subject-by-subject.
What percentage is A1 grade in Inter Pakistan? +
An A1 grade in Intermediate (HSSC) requires 80% or above. For FBISE FSc with 1100 total marks, you need at least 880 marks. A1 is the highest IBCC grade and is typically required for competitive merit lists at top public medical colleges (for MBBS via MDCAT) and engineering universities (for BE via ECAT/ETEA). Many top private universities also give weightage to A1 in inter for admission.
What is the total marks in FSc Pre-Medical and Pre-Engineering? +
For Federal Board (FBISE), both FSc Pre-Medical and FSc Pre-Engineering have a combined total of 1100 marks (Part I + Part II). FSc Pre-Medical covers Urdu, English, Islamiat, Pakistan Studies, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. FSc Pre-Engineering replaces Biology with Mathematics. The total marks are the same (1100) for both groups. For provincial boards (Punjab, Sindh, KPK), the total is also typically 1100 but individual subject allocations may vary slightly.
What percentage is needed in Inter for MBBS admission in Pakistan? +
The minimum FSc Pre-Medical percentage for MBBS eligibility nationwide is 60% (plus 60%+ in MDCAT). However, actual merit at government medical colleges is much higher. Top colleges like King Edward Medical University (KEMU) Lahore, Allama Iqbal Medical College (AIMC), and CMH Lahore require 85–90%+ in FSc with a strong MDCAT score. Private medical colleges generally have lower merit but the same 60% minimum applies.
What is the passing percentage in Intermediate in Pakistan? +
The passing percentage in Intermediate (HSSC) in Pakistan is 33% overall and 33% in each individual subject. Scoring 33–39% earns an E grade (conditional/supplementary pass — you may need to clear a supplementary exam). Scoring 40%+ earns a D grade (full pass). Note that for university admission eligibility — especially for ECAT, ETEA, MDCAT, and entry tests — most programs require a minimum of 50%–60% in Intermediate, not just the bare 33% pass mark.
How does Inter result affect university CGPA? +
Your Inter (HSSC) result uses the IBCC grading scale (percentage-based). Your university CGPA uses the HEC 4.0 scale — these are completely different systems and cannot be directly compared. However, your inter percentage is used in admission merit calculations at most universities (typically 10–20% weightage alongside entry test scores). Once admitted, your CGPA is calculated freshly from university coursework. Use our CGPA Calculator for your university grades.
