About National Skills University

National Skills University (NSU) is a federal public university established by the Government of Pakistan and chartered by the HEC in Islamabad. NSU was created to bridge the gap between Pakistan's large technical and vocational education sector and the formal degree-level system — enabling skilled workers, diploma holders, and technicians to progress to full Bachelor's and Master's degree qualifications without abandoning their technical pathways.

A defining feature of NSU is its recognition of DAE (Diploma of Associate Engineer) holders and NAVTTC/TEVTA certificate graduates as eligible entrants for BS Engineering Technology programmes through lateral entry — a route not offered at most conventional universities. This positions NSU as a critical institution for Pakistan's upskilling agenda, converting technical workforce skills into nationally and internationally recognised academic credentials.

NSU is located in Islamabad and offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across engineering technology, computing, and business disciplines. All degrees awarded by NSU are recognised by the HEC and eligible for attestation, government employment, and professional certification.

NSU Grading Scale (Official 10-Grade System)

NSU follows the HEC 4.0 grading scale across all programmes. A+ and A are distinct grade entries — both carry a grade point of 4.00, but A+ requires a score of 90–100% while A requires 85–89%.

GradeGrade PointsPercentageDescription
A+4.0090–100%Outstanding
A4.0085–89%Excellent

How to Calculate Your NSU GPA

Your semester GPA at NSU is the weighted average of grade points earned in all subjects, with each subject weighted by its credit hours.

GPA Formula: GPA = ∑(Grade Points × Credit Hours) ÷ ∑Credit Hours

Example (BS Electrical Technology): Circuit Analysis (3 cr, A = 4.00) + Power Systems (3 cr, B+ = 3.33) + Maths III (3 cr, A- = 3.67) + Lab (2 cr, A+ = 4.00) = (12.00 + 9.99 + 11.01 + 8.00) ÷ 11 = 3.73 GPA

How to Calculate Your NSU CGPA

Your CGPA at NSU is the credit-weighted average of all semester GPAs from your first enrolled semester through to your most recent completed semester.

CGPA Formula: CGPA = ∑(Semester GPA × Semester Credit Hours) ÷ Total Credit Hours

Use the CGPA tab above — enter each semester's GPA and credit hours for an instant cumulative result. For DAE lateral entry students who enter at 3rd or 5th semester, only the semesters completed at NSU are included in the NSU CGPA calculation.

Convert NSU CGPA to Percentage

Use the HEC standard formula to convert your NSU CGPA to a percentage equivalent for government job applications, CSS/PMS requirements, and MS admissions.

Formula: Percentage = (CGPA ÷ 4.0) × 100

NSU Campus & Programmes

National Skills University is located in Islamabad and operates a modern campus equipped with technology laboratories, computing facilities, and dedicated workshops for engineering technology programmes. The campus infrastructure is designed to support hands-on, applied learning — reflecting NSU's mission to produce practically skilled graduates ready to enter the technical workforce.

Programmes Offered:

  • BS Electrical Technology (4 years; DAE lateral entry available)
  • BS Civil Technology (4 years; DAE lateral entry available)
  • BS Mechanical Technology (4 years; DAE lateral entry available)
  • BS Computer Science (4 years)
  • BS Software Engineering (4 years)
  • BS Information Technology (4 years)
  • BBA — Business Administration (4 years)
  • BS Accounting & Finance (4 years)
  • MS in Engineering Technology (thesis & coursework options)
  • MS in Computer Science
  • MS in Management Sciences

NSU's BS Engineering Technology programmes are distinct from conventional BE programmes — they are applied-degree qualifications designed for students from DAE and technical backgrounds, with a greater emphasis on practical implementation over theoretical derivation.

Absolute vs Relative Grading at NSU

NSU uses absolute grading in line with HEC policy. Your grade is determined by your own performance against fixed percentage thresholds — it does not depend on how your classmates score.

NSU Admission Aggregate & Merit Calculator

NSU offers two entry routes for BS programmes: the standard FSc route and the DAE lateral entry route. Each has its own aggregate formula.

Standard BS Entry (FSc / A-Level) Aggregate:

Matric: 10%  |  FSc / Intermediate: 40%  |  NSU Entry Test: 50%

Minimum 45% in FSc (Pre-Engineering for technology programmes); SAT and A-Level equivalence accepted.

DAE Lateral Entry (BS Engineering Technology) Aggregate:

Matric: 10%  |  DAE Diploma Marks: 50%  |  NSU Aptitude / Entry Test: 40%

DAE holders may enter at 3rd semester (after 1st year) or 5th semester (after 2nd year) depending on their DAE specialisation and NSU programme alignment.

MS / MPhil Entry:

BS / 16-year degree (minimum 2.0 CGPA or 45%) + NTS GAT General or NSU Graduate Entry Test

NSU's DAE lateral entry pathway is one of Pakistan's key formal mechanisms for converting technical diploma holders into degree graduates — contributing directly to the national workforce upskilling mission. Check the NSU admissions office for current intake schedules and fee details.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does NSU stand for and what makes it different?

NSU stands for National Skills University. It is a federal public university in Islamabad established specifically to bridge Pakistan's technical and vocational education sector with formal university-level degrees. Its defining feature is that it accepts DAE (Diploma of Associate Engineer) holders directly into BS Engineering Technology programmes — a pathway not offered at most conventional Pakistani universities.

Can DAE holders apply to NSU?

Yes — this is one of NSU's most important features. DAE (Diploma of Associate Engineer) holders can apply for lateral entry into BS Engineering Technology programmes, entering at the 3rd or 5th semester depending on their DAE specialisation and NSU's programme alignment. This allows skilled technical workers to earn a full university degree without starting from scratch.

Is NSU a government university and is its degree HEC recognised?

Yes. National Skills University is a federal public university established by the Government of Pakistan and chartered by the Higher Education Commission (HEC). All degrees awarded by NSU are fully HEC-recognised, eligible for attestation, and accepted for government employment, professional certifications, and postgraduate admissions across Pakistan.

What grading system does NSU use?

NSU uses the standard HEC 4.0 absolute grading scale across all programmes. Grades range from A+ (4.00 grade points, 90–100%) down to F (0.00, below 45%). Grades are based on fixed percentage thresholds, not relative to class performance. The minimum passing CGPA for BS programmes is 2.00.

How do I convert my NSU CGPA to percentage?

Use the HEC standard formula: Percentage = (CGPA ÷ 4.0) × 100. For example, a CGPA of 3.6 equals 90%. Use our CGPA to Percentage converter for an instant calculation.
