How to Calculate Your MUET GPA
GPA Formula
GPA = Σ(Grade Points × Credit Hours) ÷ Total Credit Hours
To calculate your MUET semester GPA: for each course, multiply the grade points earned by the course credit hours to get Quality Points. Add up all Quality Points across all courses in the semester. Divide the total Quality Points by the total credit hours registered in the semester.
Step-by-Step Worked Example — BE Electrical Engineering Semester 3

Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Minimum CGPA Requirements and Probation Rules
Undergraduate Requirements
MUET undergraduate students (BE programmes) must maintain a minimum CGPA of 2.0 throughout their studies. A CGPA of at least 2.00 is required for graduation. In addition to the CGPA requirement, students must pass all courses individually and complete mandatory industrial training before they are eligible to graduate.
Graduate Requirements
ME (Master of Engineering) students at MUET must maintain a minimum CGPA of 2.5. PhD students are required to maintain a CGPA of at least 3.0. All postgraduate thresholds follow HEC mandatory minimum standards and are enforced by the Board of Advanced Studies and Research (BASAR) at MUET.

Absolute vs Relative Grading at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology
MUET employs an absolute grading system as required by HEC policy. In this approach, every student's grade is determined by their individual performance measured against fixed percentage thresholds — not by how the rest of the class performed. A student who scores 85% or above always receives an A (4.00), regardless of whether the class average was 50% or 90%.
This system is in contrast to relative or norm-referenced grading, where a student's grade depends on their rank within the class distribution. The absolute system used at MUET promotes fairness and allows students to clearly understand the relationship between their exam scores and their GPA from the very first day of the semester.
