About LUMHS (Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences)

Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) is one of Pakistan's oldest and largest public medical universities, located in Jamshoro, Sindh, adjacent to Hyderabad. The university traces its origins to 1951 when Liaquat Medical College was established — named after Liaquat Ali Khan, Pakistan's first Prime Minister — and was granted full university status in 2001. It is recognised by both the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan and the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC).

LUMHS is the primary health sciences university for interior Sindh, serving students from Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpur Khas, and across the province. Its main affiliated teaching hospital — Liaquat University Hospital, Hyderabad — is one of the largest public sector hospitals in Sindh, providing clinical training for MBBS, BDS, and nursing students.

Important for MBBS/BDS Students: LUMHS MBBS and BDS students are subject to both HEC academic regulations and PMC (Pakistan Medical Commission) professional licensing requirements. The HEC 4.0 GPA governs your academic transcript and eligibility for university scholarships and postgraduate admissions. However, you must also pass PMC Professional Examinations (Part I and Part II) to obtain your medical licence and practise medicine in Pakistan. Both are independently required — a high CGPA does not substitute for PMC exam clearance.

LUMHS Campus & Programmes

Main Campus — Jamshoro

LUMHS is located in Jamshoro, a university city on the west bank of the Indus River, directly across from Hyderabad. The campus hosts academic departments, research centres, and basic sciences laboratories. The adjacent Liaquat University Hospital (LUH) in Hyderabad is the primary teaching hospital, providing clinical exposure to MBBS and BDS students throughout their degree. LUH is one of the largest public hospitals in Sindh, with specialties spanning medicine, surgery, gynaecology, orthopaedics, and paediatrics.

Medical & Dental Programmes

LUMHS offers MBBS (5 years + 1-year house job) and BDS (4 years + 1-year house job), both fully recognised by the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC). The MBBS curriculum follows the PMC-approved framework covering basic sciences (Years 1–2) and clinical sciences (Years 3–5). Postgraduate medical education is offered through MS and MD specialist programmes in multiple clinical disciplines.

Allied Health Sciences

LUMHS also offers BS Nursing, BS Physical Therapy, BS Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT), BS Biomedical Engineering, and Pharm-D. These allied health programmes use the standard HEC 4.0 grading scale without the additional PMC professional exam requirement applicable to MBBS/BDS graduates.

Absolute vs Relative Grading at LUMHS

LUMHS follows absolute grading as mandated by HEC Pakistan. Each grade boundary is fixed — a score of 85% or above always earns an A (4.00), regardless of how the class performs. There is no bell-curve or result scaling. This ensures LUMHS graduates' academic GPAs are directly comparable with those from any other HEC university in Pakistan when applying for postgraduate medical admissions, HEC fellowships, or government health sector positions.

How to Check Your GPA on the LUMHS Portal

  1. Visit lumhs.edu.pk and log in to the Student Portal using your LUMHS registration number and password.
  2. Navigate to Academic Results or Examination to view your subject grades and semester GPA.
  3. Your cumulative CGPA is displayed in the Transcript section and is updated after each semester's official results are declared by the Controller of Examinations.
  4. For official attested transcripts — required for postgraduate medical admissions, FPSC/SPSC applications, or HEC scholarships — submit a formal request to the LUMHS Examinations department.
  5. PMC exam results and your medical licence status are tracked separately through the PMC Portal (pmcpakistan.org) and are not part of the HEC academic transcript.

LUMHS Admission Aggregate & Merit Calculator
