About Islamia College University (ICU) Peshawar
Islamia College University (ICU) Peshawar is one of KPK's oldest, most storied educational institutions, founded in 1913 during the British colonial era as Islamia College. It was established to provide higher education to Muslims in the North-West Frontier Province (now KPK), and received its formal degree-awarding university charter in 2008. ICU is recognised by HEC and is a public sector university governed by the Government of KPK.
Islamia College Peshawar has profound historical significance in the Pakistan Movement. Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Pakistan's founder, visited the college and famously called it "a pearl of all universities in the subcontinent." The college was a major centre of political consciousness among the Muslim youth of the Frontier, and many leaders of the independence movement were educated here. Khan Abdul Wali Khan and other prominent political figures of KPK are among its distinguished alumni.
ICU's main campus is located on University Road, Peshawar, one of the most beautiful and historically significant campuses in KPK. The campus features colonial-era architecture including the iconic main hall, extensive green grounds, sports facilities, a central library, and purpose-built science laboratories. ICU is co-educational at the postgraduate level and draws students from across KPK, FATA/merged districts, and AJK.
