Critical FAST-NUCES Rule: No F Grades Allowed at Graduation
A critical and unique feature of FAST-NUCES is that students cannot graduate if they have an F grade in any course, even if their overall CGPA is above 2.0. Every course in which an F was received must be repeated and passed before the degree is awarded. This is stricter than many Pakistani universities where a CGPA of 2.0 suffices for graduation. Students should monitor all their course grades carefully and clear any F grades as soon as possible.

FAST-NUCES Minimum CGPA Requirements and Probation Rules
Undergraduate CGPA Requirements
FAST-NUCES undergraduate students must maintain a minimum CGPA of 2.0 to remain in good academic standing. A student whose CGPA falls below 2.0 is placed on academic probation and must improve their CGPA within the next two semesters. Crucially, FAST-NUCES requires that no F grade exists in any course on the transcript at the time of graduation — this applies regardless of the CGPA. Students with even a single uncleared F cannot receive their degree.
Postgraduate Requirements
MS and MS (CS) students at FAST-NUCES must maintain a minimum CGPA of 2.5. PhD candidates must maintain a CGPA of 3.0 in their coursework phase. The same no-F-grade rule applies to postgraduate students — all courses must be cleared before the degree is awarded.
Credit Load and Probation
Students on academic probation at FAST-NUCES may be restricted to a lighter credit load. Most semesters carry 15–19 credit hours. Students are strongly advised to avoid course overloads if they are struggling with their GPA, as a reduced load with better grades is far more effective than a heavy load with mixed performance.
FAST-NUCES Academic Honours and Dean's List
FAST-NUCES awards the Dean's List to undergraduate students who achieve a semester GPA of 3.5 or above while carrying a full course load. At graduation, the student with the highest CGPA in each programme at each campus receives the Gold Medal at the annual convocation.
FAST-NUCES also offers a need-based scholarship programme and merit-based fee concessions. Students with exceptional CGPAs may also receive letters of recognition from the Rector, which are valuable for job applications and graduate school admissions abroad.
FAST-NUCES Programmes and Campuses
BS Computer Science and BS Software Engineering
FAST-NUCES's flagship programmes are BS CS and BS SE, offered at all five campuses. The curriculum is industry-aligned, covering algorithms, data structures, operating systems, databases, software engineering practices, and modern CS electives in AI, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and mobile development. These programmes carry approximately 130–136 credit hours over 4 years.
BS Artificial Intelligence and BS Data Science
FAST-NUCES was among the first Pakistani universities to launch dedicated BS AI and BS Data Science programmes. These programmes reflect the university's orientation toward emerging technologies. The AI programme covers machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, and NLP, while Data Science covers statistical modelling, big data, and business analytics.
BS Electrical Engineering and BS Financial Mathematics

FAST-NUCES Admission Aggregate and Entry Test
Aggregate = Matric Marks × 10% + FSc / A-Levels × 40% + NU Entry Test × 50%
FAST-NUCES conducts its own NU Entry Test (NU-ET) for undergraduate admissions. The test covers Mathematics, English, and IQ/analytical reasoning. Candidates with strong mathematics backgrounds from FSc Pre-Engineering or Pre-Medical (with Mathematics) are eligible for BS CS, BS SE, and BS EE. The entry test is held at all five campuses simultaneously and results are campus-specific merit lists.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I graduate from FAST-NUCES with an F grade on my transcript?
No. FAST-NUCES does not award a degree to any student with an uncleared F grade, regardless of their CGPA. Even if your overall CGPA is 3.5, a single F in any course means you cannot graduate until that course is repeated and passed. This is one of the most important academic rules at FAST-NUCES and distinguishes it from many other Pakistani universities.
What is the minimum CGPA to stay enrolled at FAST-NUCES?
The minimum CGPA to remain in good academic standing at FAST-NUCES is 2.0. Students whose CGPA falls below 2.0 are placed on academic probation. If the CGPA does not recover above 2.0 within the probationary period (usually two consecutive semesters), the student may be dismissed from the programme.
Is FAST-NUCES grading relative or absolute?
FAST-NUCES uses absolute grading as prescribed by HEC. Fixed percentage ranges map to letter grades and grade points regardless of class performance. However, some instructors may apply slight adjustments in accordance with FAST-NUCES academic policy. The grading methodology is disclosed in each course outline at the start of the semester.
Does FAST-NUCES have a summer semester?
Yes. FAST-NUCES offers a summer semester at all campuses. The summer semester is shorter (typically 6–8 weeks) and students can take up to 2 courses. Summer is commonly used by students to repeat failed courses, clear backlog, or fast-track their degree. GPA earned in the summer semester is included in the CGPA calculation like any regular semester.
How many credit hours are needed for a FAST-NUCES BS CS degree?
The FAST-NUCES BS Computer Science degree requires approximately 130–136 credit hours over 4 years (8 regular semesters), plus the optional summer semester. This includes core CS courses, mathematics, general education requirements, electives, and a Final Year Project (FYP) worth 6 credit hours. The FYP is typically completed in the 7th and 8th semesters.
