About Salim Habib University
Salim Habib University (SHU) is a private, HEC-chartered university in Karachi, Sindh. Formerly known as Barrett Hodgson University (BHU), the institution was renamed in honour of Salim Habib — a prominent Pakistani industrialist and philanthropist whose family's commitment to education led to the establishment and subsequent growth of the university. The rebranding reflects both the deepening institutional investment of the Salim Habib Education foundation and the university's expanding academic portfolio, as it has grown from a focused business school into a broader multi-faculty institution offering engineering and computing programmes alongside its established management sciences credentials.
Located in Karachi — Pakistan's commercial capital, largest city, and the economic engine of the national economy — SHU benefits from unparalleled industry proximity. Karachi houses the Pakistan Stock Exchange, the headquarters of the State Bank of Pakistan, most of the country's major commercial banks, hundreds of multinational corporations, the Port of Karachi (one of the busiest in South Asia), Pakistan's largest industrial zones, and the operational bases of virtually every major Pakistani conglomerate. For SHU students pursuing business, management, finance, computer science, and engineering degrees, this location translates directly into internship access, industrial visits, guest faculty from active practitioners, and immediate post-graduation employment opportunities in one of the region's most dynamic economies.
SHU is fully chartered by the HEC and uses the standard HEC 4.0 semester-based grading system across all undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The university is committed to producing industry-ready graduates equipped for Karachi's competitive professional environment — in finance, technology, media, engineering, and business management.
SHU Grading Scale (Official 10-Grade System)
SHU uses the HEC 4.0 absolute grading scale for all undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. A+ and A are separate grade entries — both carry 4.00 grade points, but A+ requires 90–100% and A requires 85–89%.

How to Calculate Your SHU GPA
Your semester GPA at SHU is the credit-weighted average of grade points earned across all subjects enrolled in that semester.
GPA Formula: GPA = ∑(Grade Points × Credit Hours) ÷ ∑Credit Hours
Example (BBA Semester 3): Business Communication (3 cr, A = 4.00) + Microeconomics (3 cr, B+ = 3.33) + Financial Accounting (3 cr, A- = 3.67) + Business Statistics (3 cr, B = 3.00) + Entrepreneurship (3 cr, A+ = 4.00) = (12.00 + 9.99 + 11.01 + 9.00 + 12.00) ÷ 15 = 3.60 GPA
How to Calculate Your SHU CGPA
Your Cumulative GPA (CGPA) at SHU is the credit-weighted average of all semester GPAs from your first enrolled semester to the most recently completed one.
CGPA Formula: CGPA = ∑(Semester GPA × Semester Credit Hours) ÷ Total Credit Hours
Use the CGPA tab above — enter each semester's GPA and credit hours for an instant cumulative result. BBA and BS programmes at SHU run over 4 years (8 semesters). The final-year internship and capstone project carry credit weight and factor into the cumulative CGPA.
Convert SHU CGPA to Percentage
Convert your SHU CGPA to a percentage using the HEC standard formula. Widely required for CSS/PMS applications, government job eligibility, and MS/MBA admissions at other institutions.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Salim Habib University and what was it previously called?
Salim Habib University (SHU) was previously known as Barrett Hodgson University (BHU). The institution was renamed after Salim Habib, a prominent Pakistani entrepreneur and philanthropist, in recognition of the Salim Habib family's sustained financial and institutional investment in higher education through the Salim Habib Education (SHE) foundation. The rebranding reflects the university's growth into a broader multi-faculty institution and its deepening alignment with the Salim Habib Group's educational mission. The HEC charter, degree recognition, and student rights were fully preserved through the name change — all BHU-issued degrees carry the same HEC validity as SHU degrees.
Is Salim Habib University (SHU) HEC recognised?
Yes. Salim Habib University is a fully chartered, HEC-recognised private university. All degrees conferred by SHU are eligible for HEC attestation, government employment, CSS/PMS competitive examination eligibility, and postgraduate admissions across Pakistan and internationally. The university continued to operate under its existing HEC charter through the transition from Barrett Hodgson University, maintaining uninterrupted degree-granting authority.
What career opportunities are available for SHU graduates in Karachi?
Karachi's status as Pakistan's commercial and financial capital gives SHU graduates access to an extraordinary breadth of career pathways. BBA and MBA graduates can pursue careers in commercial banking (HBL, UBL, MCB, Allied Bank), investment banking, FMCG companies (Unilever, P&G, Nestlé, Engro), the Pakistan Stock Exchange, insurance and takaful, supply chain and logistics (Port Qasim, Karachi Port Trust), and multinational consulting. CS and Engineering graduates can join Karachi's growing technology and software sector, K-Electric, PTCL, telco operators, and the engineering departments of industrial conglomerates. Media Studies graduates enter ARY, Geo, and the broader Karachi media industry. This career diversity is one of SHU's strongest advantages as a Karachi-based institution.
Does SHU accept SAT scores for undergraduate admission?
Many private universities in Pakistan accept SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) scores as an alternative to university-specific entry tests for undergraduate admissions, and SHU may be among them — particularly for business and social sciences programmes. However, admission policies can change each cycle. Always verify with the SHU Admissions Office whether SAT I or SAT II scores are accepted, what minimum score thresholds apply, and how the SAT score is factored into the aggregate formula for the specific programme you are applying to.
How do I convert my SHU CGPA to percentage?
Use the HEC standard formula: Percentage = (CGPA ÷ 4.0) × 100. A CGPA of 3.4 equals 85%. For an instant result, use our CGPA to Percentage converter. This formula is accepted for CSS/PMS applications, government job eligibility declarations, SECP and SBP career applications, and overseas university admission portals.
