About Forman Christian College University (FCCU)
Forman Christian College University (FCCU) is the oldest private institution of higher education in Pakistan, founded in 1864 by Dr. Charles W. Forman, an American Presbyterian missionary, in Lahore. With over 160 years of history, FCCU predates the founding of Pakistan itself by 83 years. It received its degree-awarding university charter from the Government of Pakistan in 2004 and is recognised by HEC. FCCU is governed by a Board of Governors and is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church of Pakistan.
FCCU's campus on Ferozepur Road, Lahore, is one of the most beautiful educational campuses in Pakistan — spread over 100 acres with historic red-brick colonial buildings, a large library, sports grounds (cricket, football, hockey, tennis), a swimming pool, and purpose-built science and computing laboratories. The campus architecture blends Gothic-revival colonial and Mughal styles and is considered one of Lahore's most picturesque heritage sites. FCCU is open to students of all religions and backgrounds.
FCCU alumni include some of Pakistan's most distinguished professionals, academics, and public figures. Its physics and natural sciences departments have a particularly strong tradition, and FCCU has produced prominent scientists, economists, journalists, lawyers, and civil servants. The university is known for fostering critical thinking, research culture, and a liberal arts approach to undergraduate education that is rare in Pakistan's predominantly professional-degree-focused higher education landscape.
