MUET’s Admission Policy calculates a Composite Percentage Number (CPN) = 10% SSC + 30% HSC-I (or DAE) + 60% pre-admission test. MUET uses your HSC Part-I marks. Hafiz-e-Quran who pass MUET’s Hifz test get 10 extra HSC marks, and 1% of the HSC total is deducted for each gap year after Matric. A test score below 40% is not eligible. Merit lists are made district by district.
Calculate your MUET CPN
Free · instant · no loginMUET uses your HSC Part-I marks, so the total is set to 550. For DAE, enter your diploma marks and total. A gap year cuts 1% of your HSC total (5.50 marks out of 550) from your obtained marks.
What test score do you need?
Set your target CPN and we work backwards from your SSC and HSC-I marks to the pre-admission test score you need.
MUET Merit Formula: CPN = 10% SSC + 30% HSC-I + 60% Test
| Component | Weight | What MUET uses |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-admission test | 60% | MUET computer-based test; minimum 40%, no negative marking |
| HSC-I / DAE | 30% | HSC Part-I (any group) or DAE, with adjusted marks |
| SSC | 10% | Matriculation (Science group) |
MUET’s own example: 70% in SSC, 60% in HSC-I and 50% in the test give CPN = 7 + 18 + 30 = 55.0000. CPN is worked out to four decimal places. Ties are broken by test marks, then HSC-I, then SSC, then HSC Maths-I or Biology-I marks. MUET’s policy has no 75% or 15% weights, so a 10-15-75 calculator gives the wrong result.
MUET Hafiz Marks and Gap-Year Deduction
| Rule | Effect on HSC-I marks | Example (450 / 550) |
|---|---|---|
| Hafiz-e-Quran (printed certificate + MUET Hifz test) | +10 marks | 460 / 550 = 83.64% |
| 1 gap year after Matric | −1% of the HSC total (5.50) | 444.50 / 550 = 80.82% |
| 2 gap years after Matric | −2% of the HSC total (11.00) | 439 / 550 = 79.82% |
The deduction applies whether you repeated HSC or had a gap for any other reason. Because HSC-I carries 30%, one gap year costs about 0.3 CPN points.
How to Calculate Your MUET CPN

|---|---|
| Pre-Engineering or DAE (relevant technology) | All BE programmes (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics, Computer Systems, Software, Telecom, Chemical, Industrial, Mining, Metallurgy, Petroleum, Textile, Environmental, Biomedical, Mechatronics), Architecture, City & Regional Planning, BBA, BS English, BS CS, Cyber Security, AI, Mathematics, Environmental Sciences, BE Technology (Civil, Electrical) |

| Commerce and other groups | BBA and BS English |
For 2026-27 you could apply on HSC-I (2025), or with HSC-II passed up to 2023 with at least 60% (50% for Engineering Technology). If you are admitted on HSC-I, you must then score at least 60% in HSC-II (50% for Engineering Technology), or the admission is cancelled. Grace marks are not counted.
MUET Seats and District Quota
MUET’s regular seats are divided among Sindh’s districts (categories A-1 to A-5). For example, Hyderabad has 86 seats, Badin 68, Khairpur 44, Sukkur 28 and all of Karachi together 20. Each district’s seats are split across disciplines, and you compete only with candidates from your own district. Separate seats exist for MUET employees’ relatives (Category B, 44 seats), nominees, religious minorities, self-finance and the SZAB campus in Khairpur.
| Self-finance scheme | One-time fee |
|---|---|
| Highest-demand disciplines | Rs. 14,70,000 |
| Other bands | Rs. 12,60,000 / 10,50,000 / 7,35,000 / 6,30,000 |
| Lowest band | Rs. 4,25,000 |
| Foreign / overseas Pakistani | US$ 13,000 |
MUET Admission Process
- Apply online at ugadmissions.muet.edu.pk (opened 15 April 2026) and upload SSC, HSC-I/II, domicile, PRC and CNIC/B-form.
- Take the computer-based pre-admission test at Jamshoro (from 22 May 2026, with a Phase-II test on 18 July 2026).
- Check your district merit list, which is shown the same day as your test.
- Attend the interview the next day with your guardian and original documents. Disciplines are awarded and fees paid on the spot.
- Give up to 5 later choices if you do not get the discipline you want. Change-of-technology lists follow.
Common MUET Merit Mistakes
- Using full HSC marks. MUET’s CPN uses HSC Part-I marks.
- Using the 10-15-75 weightage. MUET’s policy is 10-30-60.
- Forgetting the gap-year deduction. Each gap year after Matric costs 1% of your HSC total.
- Comparing with the wrong list. Merit is ranked within your district quota, not across Sindh.
Frequently asked questions
What is the MUET merit formula?
CPN = 10% SSC + 30% HSC-I (adjusted) + 60% pre-admission test, according to MUET’s Admission Policy.
What is the passing marks of the MUET pre-admission test?
40%. Candidates who score less than 40% are not eligible, and there is no negative marking.
Does MUET use HSC Part-I or Part-II marks?
HSC Part-I (or DAE). If you are admitted on Part-I, you must later score at least 60% in Part-II (50% for Engineering Technology).
Do Hafiz-e-Quran get extra marks at MUET?
Yes. 10 marks are added to your HSC marks if you have a printed Hafiz certificate from a registered madressah and pass MUET’s Hifz test.
Is there a deduction for a gap year at MUET?
Yes. 1% of your HSC total is deducted for each academic year of gap after Matric, for example 5.50 marks out of 550 for one year.
How are MUET seats allocated?
Mostly by district quota across Sindh. You are ranked by CPN within your district, and your discipline is awarded at the interview.
Do MUET Jamshoro and SZAB Khairpur use the same formula?
Yes. Both follow the same MUET admission policy and CPN, but the Khairpur campus has its own district and discipline seat distribution.
Is this the official MUET merit?
No. This is an independent calculator built from MUET’s own admission policy. MUET publishes the official merit and interview call lists.
