The PMDC-confirmed national formula for MBBS and BDS admission across Pakistan is 10% Matric + 40% FSc + 50% MDCAT. This applies the same way in Punjab (UHS), KP (KMU), Sindh, Balochistan and Federal institutions — confirmed directly in Khyber Medical University’s own live calculator source code, not just from third-party trackers. MDCAT 2026 is scored out of 180 marks, down from 200 in 2023-2024 and 210 in earlier cycles.
Calculate your MDCAT aggregate
Free · instant · no loginMDCAT Total defaults to 180 (the 2026 total). If you are working out an older cycle, change “MDCAT Total” above to 200 (2023-2024) or 210 (2022 and earlier) — the 10-40-50 weightage itself has not changed.
What MDCAT score do you need?
Set your target aggregate and we work backwards from your Matric and FSc marks to the MDCAT score you need. The grid shows your aggregate at every score from 50% to 100% of the paper.
MDCAT Aggregate Formula 2026: 10% Matric + 40% FSc + 50% MDCAT
The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) sets a single national merit formula for MBBS and BDS admission, applied the same way at every public medical and dental college in the country:
| Component | Weightage |
|---|---|
| MDCAT | 50% |
| FSc / Intermediate (HSSC) | 40% |
| Matric / SSC | 10% |
This is confirmed two ways. Several independent MDCAT-preparation platforms (Maqsad, ePrepare, medicoengineer) all state the identical 10-40-50 split. More decisively, Khyber Medical University’s own official aggregate calculator (part of its Centralised Admission System) computes MatricPercent × 0.1 + FScPercent × 0.4 + MDCATPercent × 0.5 in its own JavaScript source code — exactly matching the 10-40-50 figure, straight from a working official tool rather than a policy document summary.
This formula governs MBBS and BDS admission through UHS (Punjab), KMU (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), DUHS and other authorities (Sindh), BUMHS (Balochistan), and SZABMU and other Federal institutions.
Why MDCAT’s Total Marks Changed: 210, Then 200, Now 180
The 10-40-50 weightage has stayed the same for years, but the number MDCAT is scored out of has changed more than once. KMU’s own official calculator still lets applicants choose between 180, 200 and 210 as the MDCAT total, which is a useful sign of how recently this changed:
| Cycle | MDCAT total marks |
|---|---|
| 2026 (current) | 180 |
| 2023 – 2024 | 200 |
| 2022 and earlier | 210 |
If you are comparing your aggregate against an older result, a past closing merit, or a sibling’s admission year, make sure you are using the total marks for that cycle, not the current one — a 150/210 result and a 150/180 result represent very different MDCAT percentages (71.4% versus 83.3%).
How to Calculate Your MDCAT Aggregate: Step-by-Step Guide
- Convert each result to a percentage. Divide obtained marks by total marks and multiply by 100 for Matric and FSc. Divide your MDCAT score by 180 (or 200/210 for older cycles) and multiply by 100.
- Multiply by the PMDC weightage. Matric percentage × 0.10, FSc percentage × 0.40, MDCAT percentage × 0.50.
- Add the three numbers. The total is your MDCAT aggregate out of 100.
Worked example
A student scores 950/1100 in Matric, 980/1100 in FSc and 150/180 in MDCAT.
| Component | Marks | Percentage | Weightage | Points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MDCAT | 150 / 180 | 83.33% | 50% | 41.67 |
| FSc | 980 / 1100 | 89.09% | 40% | 35.64 |
| Matric | 950 / 1100 | 86.36% | 10% | 8.64 |
| Total aggregate | — | — | 100% | 85.94% |
Try these same numbers in the calculator above and you will get 85.94%.
MDCAT 2026 Exam Pattern: Sections, MCQs and No Negative Marking
MDCAT 2026 is a 180-MCQ, paper-based test in English, with no negative marking, per PM&DC’s official registration notice. The 180 questions are split across five sections:
- Biology — 81 MCQs
- Chemistry — 45 MCQs
- Physics — 36 MCQs
- English — 9 MCQs
- Logical Reasoning — 9 MCQs
Because there is no negative marking, there is no risk in attempting every question — leaving an answer blank scores the same as getting it wrong.
MDCAT Eligibility: Minimum Aggregate for MBBS and BDS
| Programme | Minimum aggregate | Minimum MDCAT score |
|---|---|---|
| MBBS | 55% | 99 / 180 |
| BDS | 50% | 90 / 180 |
These are minimum eligibility thresholds, not closing merit — clearing them only makes you eligible to be ranked, it does not guarantee a seat. Popular public medical colleges typically close well above these minimums.
Does the MDCAT Aggregate Formula Differ by Province?
No. The 10% Matric + 40% FSc + 50% MDCAT weightage is a PMDC-mandated national standard, and it is applied the same way in every province: Punjab (through UHS), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (through KMU), Sindh, Balochistan (through BUMHS) and Federal institutions (through SZABMU and others).
What does differ by province and by college is everything downstream of the formula: domicile and provincial quotas, self-finance versus regular seats, foreign/overseas Pakistani quotas, and each college’s own closing merit. The percentage calculation itself does not change.
MDCAT Aggregate Impact: How Much Is Each Mark Worth?
Because MDCAT carries the largest weight and is scored on a small 180-point scale, each individual MDCAT question is worth far more than a raw mark in Matric or FSc.
| Improvement | Change in aggregate |
|---|---|
| +1 correct MCQ in MDCAT (out of 180) | +0.278 points |
| +10 marks in FSc (out of 1100) | +0.364 points |
| +10 marks in Matric (out of 1100) | +0.091 points |
One extra correct MDCAT answer is worth roughly as much as three extra marks in FSc, and more than 30 extra marks in Matric. This is why MDCAT preparation dominates the final months before admission, even though your academic record still makes up half the aggregate.
MDCAT Closing Merit: What Aggregate Do You Need for MBBS/BDS?
There is no single number: closing merit depends on the college, the province, the quota (open merit, self-finance, or reserved), and that year’s applicant pool. Historically, open-merit MBBS seats at the most competitive public medical colleges in Punjab and Sindh have closed above 85%, while newer or less central public colleges, and self-finance or provincial-quota seats, close lower.
Use the previous cycle’s official closing merit for your target college and quota as a benchmark, then use the required-score tool above to see the MDCAT score you need to reach it.
How to Improve Your MDCAT Aggregate
- Prioritise MDCAT preparation. At 50% weightage on a compact 180-point scale, it is the single highest-leverage input in your aggregate.
- Do not neglect FSc. At 40% weightage, a strong Intermediate result still matters more than most students expect, especially since it is locked in before you sit MDCAT.
- Attempt every MDCAT question. With no negative marking, a blank answer and a wrong answer score the same — there is no reason to leave any question unanswered.
- Use the correct total marks for your cycle. Always divide by 180 for 2026, not 200 or 210, unless you are deliberately checking an older result.
- Apply broadly across provinces and colleges. Since the formula is uniform nationally, your aggregate is portable — check merit lists at more than one college and quota.
Common MDCAT Aggregate Calculation Mistakes to Avoid
- Dividing MDCAT by the wrong total. Using 200 or 210 instead of 180 for the current cycle understates your real MDCAT percentage.
- Averaging the three percentages. MDCAT is weighted 50%, so a simple one-third average gives the wrong answer.
- Confusing eligibility with closing merit. Clearing 55% (MBBS) or 50% (BDS) makes you eligible; it does not mean you will be admitted at any particular college.
- Assuming the formula differs by province. It does not — domicile, quotas and closing merit differ, but the 10-40-50 calculation itself is the same everywhere.
- Treating the estimate as final. Only your province’s official merit list, published on its admissions portal, is official.
Frequently asked questions
What is the MDCAT aggregate formula?
The PMDC-confirmed national formula is 10% Matric, 40% FSc/Intermediate and 50% MDCAT. This applies to MBBS and BDS admission across Punjab, Sindh, KP, Balochistan and Federal institutions.
How many marks is MDCAT out of in 2026?
MDCAT 2026 is scored out of 180 marks: 180 MCQs, one mark each, no negative marking. It was out of 200 in 2023-2024 and out of 210 in 2022 and earlier cycles.
Does the MDCAT formula differ by province?
No. The 10-40-50 weightage is applied uniformly across Punjab (UHS), KP (KMU), Sindh, Balochistan and Federal institutions. Khyber Medical University’s own live calculator source code computes the same 0.10/0.40/0.50 weights.
How is the MDCAT aggregate calculated?
Convert Matric, FSc and MDCAT to percentages, multiply by 0.10, 0.40 and 0.50 respectively, and add the results. For example, Matric 950/1100, FSc 980/1100 and MDCAT 150/180 give 85.94%.
What is the minimum aggregate for MBBS and BDS?
55% for MBBS (minimum MDCAT score 99/180) and 50% for BDS (minimum MDCAT score 90/180). These are eligibility thresholds, not closing merit.
What MDCAT score do I need to reach a target aggregate?
Subtract your Matric and FSc points from your target and divide by 0.50, then convert to a score out of 180. For example, with Matric 950/1100 and FSc 980/1100 you already have 44.27 points, so a target of 85% needs an MDCAT score of at least 147/180. Use the required-score tool on this page to do it for your own marks.
Is there negative marking in MDCAT?
No. A wrong or unanswered question scores zero, per PM&DC’s official registration notice for MDCAT 2026.
How is MDCAT split between subjects?
Biology 81 MCQs, Chemistry 45 MCQs, Physics 36 MCQs, English 9 MCQs and Logical Reasoning 9 MCQs, totalling 180 MCQs.
What merit do I need to get into a medical college?
It depends on the college, province, quota and applicant pool that year, so there is no fixed number. Use the previous cycle’s official closing merit for your target college and quota as a benchmark, then use the required-score tool to see the MDCAT score you need.
Is this the official MDCAT aggregate?
No. This is an independent estimator built from PMDC’s published formula, cross-checked against an official university calculator’s own source code. Your official merit position is published by your province’s medical college admission authority (UHS, KMU, DUHS, or the relevant authority for your province).
Why is my aggregate different from the one my province published?
Common reasons are dividing MDCAT by the wrong total (200 or 210 instead of 180), rounding differences, or additional province-specific bonus marks (such as for Hafiz-e-Quran) that some provinces apply on top of the base 10-40-50 formula. Confirm the exact figures with your province’s admission authority.
