About Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU)
Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) was established in 1998 as a federal public university in Rawalpindi, named after Fatima Jinnah (1893–1967) — the sister of Pakistan's founder Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and one of Pakistan's most revered women leaders, known as Madar-e-Millat (Mother of the Nation). FJWU is supervised by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and is the premier public women's university serving the Rawalpindi-Islamabad region.
FJWU's main campus is located in Rawalpindi's Chaklala Scheme III area. The university provides higher education exclusively to female students in a safe, academically focused environment. It draws students from Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, and many other districts. The university offers programmes spanning natural sciences, computing, social sciences, management, education, home economics, and food sciences.
FJWU has played a significant role in increasing female higher education enrollment in Punjab's northern districts, where conservative social norms had historically limited women's access to co-education institutions. By providing a women-only environment with high academic standards and very low fees compared to private universities, FJWU has enabled tens of thousands of young women from the twin cities and surrounding areas to pursue university education.
